Introduction
Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m Christa Hugo, a passionate pianist who brings the magic of live music to weddings and events. I’m excited to share my journey, experiences, and tips with you through this blog. Whether you're planning a wedding, corporate event or private party, I hope you'll find inspiration and valuable insights here.
My Journey as a Pianist
My musical journey began in early childhood, first with recorder lessons, followed by guitar, piano and then oboe. I had a very patient and understanding family! By the age of 12, my piano teacher recognized my potential and recommended me to the Melksham School of Ballet who required a pianist. Becoming their regular pianist for Saturday classes at such a young age was a pivotal moment in my life. I retained the role throughout my teenage years and this is where I started to learn the essential skills that became crucial in my later career as a full-time professional ballet pianist, many of which crossover into my work as a weddings and events pianist.
After completing my studies at Southampton University, where I earned a BA (Hons) in Music, and Bath Spa University College, where I obtained a PGCE in Secondary Music, I pursued an instrumental teaching career. Teaching provided valuable experiences and allowed me to share my passion for music with others, before I found a way to build a career around playing the piano.
In 2006, I seized the opportunity to follow my passion and joined Elmhurst Ballet School as a full-time ballet pianist. Today, I continue to play for the Royal Ballet School's Birmingham Associate classes and work with the Birmingham Royal Ballet on their Dance Track and Dreams projects.
A significant chapter of my musical journey began in 2012 when I became a choir leader with Rock Choir, an experience I cherish deeply. Leading up to 300 singers from the piano every week in rehearsals and performances was both challenging and immensely rewarding. This role not only furthered my musical skills but also allowed me to forge a meaningful bond with the choir members, who will always hold a special place in my heart. Connecting with them, both musically and personally, enriched my life in ways I could never have imagined. My time with Rock Choir was filled with memorable moments, including performing at iconic venues and leading the choir in high-profile events.
Transition to Weddings and Events
I had frequently played at weddings for family and friends, and by the summer of 2023, I began offering my services to the public for weddings and events. The response has been incredible, and I quickly found myself in high demand. From traditional ceremonies to quirky receptions, lively corporate gatherings and sophisticated dinner parties, I’ve enjoyed every moment of this new chapter. Some of my favourite venues include Mill Barns in Shropshire and Curradine Barns near Worcester. Their rustic charm and picturesque landscapes provide the perfect backdrop for weddings and events and performing at these venues like these is a delight!
The Importance of Music at Weddings and Events
Live music adds an unparalleled magic to any occasion, bringing a warmth, energy, and emotion that recorded music simply can't replicate. With an expansive repertoire and a keen sensitivity to the atmosphere, I adapt in real-time to the mood of the room, ensuring that every note resonates authentically with your guests.
For me, the piano stands out as the most beautiful and flexible of all instruments. Its versatility allows for solo performance without the need for accompaniment, making it an ideal choice for weddings and events. The piano is at home in any setting, whether it's adding a touch of warmth to a intimate gathering or filling a grand hall with its rich, resonant sound.

I like to think that what sets me apart is my dedication to preparing personalised musical experiences that resonate deeply with my clients. White Baby Grand Piano
I'm thrilled to announce that I now offer a stunning addition to my repertoire: a white baby grand piano shell. It's a stunning centerpiece that exudes elegance and sophistication, resembling a real baby grand piano in every detail. Paired with my professional stage piano, its sound is equally exquisite, ensuring an unforgettable musical experience for your event. And let's not forget its Instagram-worthy charm—it's a photo op waiting to happen, adding a touch of magic to your memorable moments.

Memorable Performances
Some of my most memorable musical moments come from my time as a choir leader. Highlights include:
· Performing at the O2 Arena and Hyde Park for Radio 2's Proms In The Park.
· Leading my choir in performance with Susan Boyle and Michael Ball on the Britain’s Got Talent live final.
· Recording at Abbey Road Studios, where I had the honour of leading my choir from the stunning Steinway piano.
I look forward to seeing where my career takes me next! What would be your ideal venue? Let me know!
Away from the piano
When I'm not working, I’m often exploring new hobbies and enjoying life’s little pleasures. I have a much-loved cat named Dennis who enjoys "helping" with my practice sessions. Away from the piano, I'm currently channelling my inner rock chick by learning the drums and my dream is to get up on the stage one day! I'm also a table football enthusiast and never pass up a good board game night with friends!
In addition to my performance work, I serve as a rock and pop examiner with Trinity College London, keeping me connected to our future music community. I also a regular soloist with Constella Music, an organisation dedicated to harnessing the power of music for social good.
